Bury needed to get back to winning ways after last Sunday's defeat to Northwich Victoria. The starting line up was as follows:
In goal was Murray
In defence was John, Graeme, Craig and Wozza.
In midfield was Kev, Gaz, Carl and Tom
Up front was Ant and Nev
And the subs were Stu, Mark, Si, Neil Sav
With it raining the night before and just before kick-off, the pitch wasn't as good as it normally is. It would prove that we would have to pass it round well to get anything out of this game.
Bury started well with some good passing and before long they carved out the first chance of the game with Ant just heading over from one of Gaz's many corners. Bury continued to pass it round well, then Peterborough had a chance from 30 yards out and managed to put it over Murray's head to make it 1-0.
Bury decided to up the pace and made a good number of passes as Gaz put a nice ball down the right for Ant to chase. Ant had a quick look up and put a nice cross in for Nev to side foot it into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance to get it. Then 3 minutes later Ant and Nev teamed up again for Nev to make it 2-1. Bury were starting to control the game with chances falling to Gaz, Ant, Nev and Carl. Then from a long goal kick from Graeme, Carl flicks it on for Nev who flicks it for Ant and Tom to fight for. They were both going towards goal for Ant to get there and slide it past the diving keeper to make it 3-1. With the pitch getting worse and turning into a mud bath, Bury had to pass it much better, which they did, setting up several chances with Nev playing a delightful back heel straight into the run of Carl only for him to miss (again).
It was one way traffic as Bury was piling on the pressure and creating even more chances with Gaz getting frustrated at not being able to shoot on goal (but why start something you haven't done for the past two seasons). The Posh goalkeeper pulled off some great saves to keep the score down but it wasn't long before Bury had their fourth. With Gaz attempting to shoot only for it to get deflected to Carl and the midfield maestro to nestle it in the bottom corner. 4-1.
The Bury defence hardly had anything to do with Graeme mopping up everything that came his way. And with Tom showing some good skill down the right wing and cutting in, he soon made it 5-1 to the Bury boys.
Bury were using both wings very well as Kev was running their right back ragged with his amazing dribbles and pace. As the rain came down again the game died down a bit and it got a bit scrappy. The half time whistle blew much to the delight of the Peterborough players.
Half time score was BURY 5-1 PETERBOROUGH
Half time subs: Stu came on for John who was now the ref. Neil came on for Craig.
The second half kicked off with much of the same free-flowing and good attacking play from Bury who were starting to create even more chances. Peterborough were attacking more only to be undone by the solid back four.
As Bury continued to pile on the pressure and the chances coming thick and fast, it wouldn't be long before Bury had their sixth of the game, with Peterborough having a corner the ball got cleared upfield for Nev to chase. The Posh keeper who got there just before Nev cleared, but only to Carl who hit a thunderous shot from five yards in the Posh half and put it over the keeper to score th goal of the game and maybe the season.
With Gaz having to go off because he was crying that he broke a finger nail, it meant Bury had to make changes with Si coming on for Gaz, with Tom pushing in field, Kev going right wing and Si playing on the left. This didn't change the flow of the game with Bury attacking and it wasn't long before it was no 7 to Bury. The ball went out for a corner; with Gaz off the field it meant that a corner might go into the box. Nev took the corner and placed it right on Tom's heat to make it 7-1.
Then a couple of minutes later Nev showed some good skill by beating 2 defenders and putting a nice deep cross to the back post for Simon to rifle home a nice volley. 8-1.
Bury took their foot off the pedal and were passing round well then Peterborough had a chance to get their 2nd of the game and did with a nicely taken goal beating Murray at his near post. 8-2.
At this point Big H brought himself on for Tom and pushed Graeme into midfield. Bury were in total control creating more and more chances and soon Ant had his second of the game showing some good trickery to beat three defenders and slipping the ball under the keeper. 9-2.
It was near the end of the game and the pitch was getting unplayable but we carried on and seen out the game.
Final score: BURY 9-2 PETERBOROUGH
Would like to thank the Peterborough guys and girl for coming up and playing a good game.
